Campaign for Safe Cosmetics Recognizes Dr. Bronners as Champion of Natural Cosmetics

Campaign for Safe CosmeticsDr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, the top-selling natural brand of liquid and bar soap in the United States is pleased to be recognized as a Champion of Safe Cosmetics for its longstanding commitment to using natural and safe ingredients. Last week the Environmental Working Group’s Campaign for Safe Cosmetics announced Dr. Bronner’s is in compliance with the “Compact for Safe Cosmetics” which ensures ingredients are fully disclosed on packaging and that none of the ingredients contain hazardous chemicals.

“We are an original signer of the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, but we didn’t need to change our formulations for recognition because we have been using natural safe ingredients since the beginning,” says David Bronner, President of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps. “It is very encouraging to see competitors in the natural marketplace reveal their ingredient and eliminate hazardous chemicals because of the Campaign’s diligent research and follow through. With government oversight lacking, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is fulfilling an important regulatory function that makes products we use everyday safer for us and the environment.”

Dr. Bronner’s is synonymous with Old-World quality and time-honored simplicity, which can be traced back to the family’s German-Jewish soapmaking tradition. Born in 1908 to a Jewish family that had been making soap since 1858, Emanuel Bronner was a third generation certified master-soapmaker under the guild system of the time. In 1929, he brought his formulas for high-quality liquid and bar soaps to America, starting Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps in its current form in 1948. In 2003 Dr. Bronner’s certified all liquid and bar soaps under the USDA organic program, the same that certifies food.

“Congratulations to Dr .Bronner’s for being a Champion and for demonstrating that it’s possible to make personal care products that far exceed current safety standards in the United States. A growing number of consumers are seeking personal care products that do not contain hazardous chemicals, and our report shows that making safer products is not only possible, but is also part of a successful business model,” said Mia Davis, organizing director of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and coordinator of the new Safe Cosmetics Business Network.
