When we think of the perfect skin, we tend to think of a baby’s skin. It is so soft, there hasn’t been any damage yet, and it’s the furthest thing from aging. Although, all new parents are stumbled once they see that their baby has a small amount of acne.
Acne in babies is very common, and happens in just about all of them. Although babies do have close to perfect skin, it is normal to see a few red bumps here and there. So, you probably have the same question as I did being a mother first time around; why would a baby have acne and how did they get it? To find out all the answers to your questions, continue reading below!
When does acne show up in babies?
It is common for a baby to have acne from the day they are born. If they don’t have it the day they’re born, it will most likely show up in a few weeks. When it does, you will find that it tends to be on the chin, cheeks, and their forehead the most. If it does show up don’t panic, it’s completely normal!
Why does my baby have acne?
The reason babies get acne isn’t really known. Just like teenagers get acne, no one really knows the exact answer. Some people have perfect skin their whole life while others struggle with acne. Although there is no definite answer, some experts seem to think it’s due to the hormones the mother passes along at the end of pregnancy. Certain things like stress, hormones, and not washing their skin regularly can cause small break outs here and there.
Can I do anything to treat the acne?
Actually yes, you can just leave the acne alone. You don’t want to touch it, pop it, or even put any treatments or cleansers on it. Simply wash your baby’s face during bath time and leave it at that. As we all know if we do pop acne it can leave us with a mark or scare on our skin forever. So, don’t make their skin worse by trying to “treat” it. The best treatment is natural and that’s leaving it alone.
When does acne usually subside?
Acne will usually go away within a few weeks. It’s definitely not a permanent thing and it goes away fairly quickly. Although, if you find that your baby’s skin isn’t improving, and it continues to get worse you may want to get it checked out by their pediatrician at their next appointment.
Although we all think a baby’s skin is perfect right from the beginning, it’s usually not. So once you being to see the start of acne, don’t panic but instead consider the answers to these questions!
