Bakutrol Powerful Triple-Acting Skin Care Ingredient
Unigen, Inc., a global leader in the discovery and development of patented clinically-tested plant-derived active ingredients to the dietary supplement, food, cosmetics, personal care and pharmaceutical industries announces the launch of Bakutrol, a powerful triple-acting botanical skin care ingredient offering anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-scarring benefits. Unigen is currently discussing licensing and supply agreements with some of the world’s premiere manufacturers and marketers of quality skin care, makeup, fragrance and hair care products. Under these agreements, Unigen will provide Bakutrol, in their leading brands on a global basis.
Nearly 85% of the US population between the ages of 12-24 will develop some type of microbial or inflammatory skin condition such as acne. Global sales of acne treatments in 2009 were estimated at $600 million, an increase of 22% from 2003. Current topical anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-scarring treatments, such as benzoyl peroxide and retinoids, often cause skin irritation, dryness and other unwanted side effects which limit compliance and reduces effectiveness.
Unigen’s Bakutrol is a natural botanical alternative, derived from the novel plant extract Psolarea corylifolia, and has been scientifically proven to visibly improve skin appearance. Bakutrol contains bakuchiol, a compound which has been shown to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria and to inhibit the COX/LOX inflammatory pathways. In clinical studies, Bakutrol reduced both inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions without the adverse side effects often found with harsh chemicals. Additionally, Bakutrol significantly reduces scarring or Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH), the dark spots left behind long after the acne lesion has healed. Unlike traditional acne treatments, only Bakutrol has been clinically proven to reduce PIH. It has been thoroughly safety tested by independent third party institutes and has shown no adverse side effects. Bakutrol is highly compatible in formulation with other acne care ingredients, such as salicylic acid, and can be used as an active agent in creams, lotions, gels, masks and other cosmetic products. Additionally, Bakutrol has multiple global patents pending.
Pat Schneider, Unigen’s Chief Business Officer is extremely upbeat about the opportunities for Bakutrol. “We are very excited to be working with several forward thinking giants in the cosmetic industry to provide safe, novel botanical ingredients like Bakutrol and help develop superior skin care products.” said Schneider. Unigen’s scientific expertise in researching and discovering patented, clinically effective, natural ingredients has made significant advancements in the development of next generation skin care products. Schneider added, “Bakutrol is taking skin care science to the next level. With more new advancements in development, Unigen will continue to be a leader in providing cutting edge ingredients that have the potential to positively affect the lives of millions.” For more information visit: Bakutrol.
