Ava Anderson 15 Non-Toxic Skin Care Line
Fifteen-year-old Ava Anderson has launched Ava Anderson Non-Toxic, the world’s first line of skin care in which every ingredient in every product scores ZERO on the Cosmetics Database toxicity scale.
Maintained by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), The Cosmetics Database was created by marrying 57,000 products and their ingredients, with known, respected, scientific test results from 57 agencies and organizations, including the FDA, EPA, EU Chemical Bureau, Breast Fund, Canadian Chemical Bureau, and others. The database gives each product an overall score, from 0-10, and rates every ingredient in the product on the same 0-10 scale. It also outlines the health hazards and disease implications of toxic (to varying degrees) ingredients.
“A year ago, I first learned from a news report about the health risks of the chemicals I was putting on my face and body every day,” Ava Anderson said. “I couldn’t stop thinking about it and I was frustrated when I discovered that despite ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ claims, many products sold as healthy alternatives still contained questionable ingredients, especially when you realize how many chemicals can be hidden under the ‘fragrance’ ingredient listing.” Anderson’s quest to find an answer led to a meeting in New York with a cosmetics manufacturer who took up the challenge to create a truly non-toxic skin care and cosmetics line. One, as Anderson insisted, that would pass the Cosmetics Database tests with all ZEROS.
“Not only women, but men and children also risk their health by applying these toxic chemicals to their body day after day, year after year,” Anderson said. “Developing an alternative became an obsession for me. With my parents’ help I have been able to do something about this. At the very least, I hope Ava Anderson Non-Toxic will make people more aware of hidden dangers and encourage them to make safer choices.”
Ava’s first six skin care products are built around a core cleansing and moisturizing routine that everyone can use. Formulated with truly safe ingredients, they provide gentle cleansing, moisturizing, conditioning, nourishing and protection for every day healthy skin.
Ava Anderson Non-Toxic employs USA-based Island printers, manufacturers, advertising and marketing talent, graphic artists and web designers. For more information, visit www.AvaAndersonNonToxic.com and www.CosmeticsDatabase.com.

Congratulations Ava. For a 15 year old this is a very intelligent, mature step to take. As you well know the US Cosmetic Industry is self-regulated and, thus, can put anything they want on their products. They can claim to be natural or organic and get away with it because there is no one to challenge them. If you have not already done so, it might be beneficial to get your line certified. There are several US organizations and any number of European labs to accomplish this. Just a suggestion, as then you do not have to substantiate your product as the certification will be on the label.
In any event, again congratulations as this is a greta accomplishment.
Honeysuckle Flower Extract, when used as a preservative as with these products, is a highly processed and highly concentrated paraben extraction. From a biological standpoint, they are virtually identical to the synthetic parabens we already know are harmful. As of this writing, there is no available evidence to indicate a naturally derived version of a paraben is any less toxic for the body than a synthetic version.

While all of us love using cosmeticdatabase.com for product safety information, the site is relatively new and their database is still lacking a lot of information on certain ingredients. They disclose this for each ingredient by posting the “data gap” next to the safety rating. Ingredients with a 100% data gap have NO available safety data available within EWG’s database, therefore the “0″ rating they receive would be more accurate if a “not available” was used instead.

I recently found Ava’s products & absolutely love them! The moisturizer is silky, absorbs well, & smells awesome! I love that the cleanser leaves your skin soft & not tight & the toner doesn’t dry at all (no alcohol!). I can’t wait for the other products to arrive! It’s so nice not to have to worry about label reading and potential hazards with her products!
