Goddess Garden Organic Mineral-Based Kid’s and Adult Sunscreen Line
Goddess Garden, a Boulder, Colorado skincare company founded by a mother wanting safe sunblock products for children, announces the introduction of a new organic sunscreen line using mineral-based sun block agents. The new Goddess Garden kid’s sun care products have a distinctive bright green label with a red ladybug and a golden yellow sun. As part of the launch, the company is introducing a first-of-its kind Ultraviolet Educational Program with a point-of-purchase UV Bracelet for children to learn about the strength of the sun when they are outside, and an UV Index on the company website: www.NaturalSuncare.com where people can type in their zip code to determine the UV forecast in their town daily.
The active sun block ingredients are from natural minerals, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, to block harmful ultraviolet radiation and provide SPF 30 protection. Two versions of the sunscreen line will debut at the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, CA, March 6-8, 2009: a lightly-scented lavender sunscreen lotion made with pure French lavender essential oil for children and a version for adults.
Both the new sunscreen products for children and adults will be offered in three sizes: one-time-use 1⁄2 ounce Xela packets, a 3-ounce and 6-ounce family size. Additional ingredients include: Organic Aloe Vera, Apricot Kernel Oil, Organic Sweet Almond Oil, Organic Soy Bean Oil, Soy Lecithin, Vegetable Glycerin, Organic Jojoba Oil, Fair Trade Shea Butter, Organic Cocoa Butter, Xantham Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), Phenoxyethanol (preservative less than .5 percent), and Organic French Lavender (lavendula angustifolia).

The new Goddess Garden sunscreens are made with 70 percent certified organic ingredients. Noteworthy ingredients include certified organic aloe vera – a succulent plant known for its healing properties, most notably its cooling effect on sunburned skin – and shea butter prized for its moisturizing and antioxidant properties. The Fair Trade shea butter used in Goddess Garden products is harvested by members of the Agbanga Karite Women’s Cooperative in Togo, Africa. The Fair Trade Federation and the Africa Fair Trade Council assist the women’s co-op in selling their shea butter while earning a living wage.
According to The Natural Foods Merchandiser Market Overview report, U.S. natural products sales grew 9.8 percent in 2007 across all retail and nonretail channels with over $62 billion in total sales.
