Sonya Dakar New Formulations
In a company-wide initiative toward the production of eco-friendly products, services, and practices, Sonya Dakar is proud to announce that all five of the line’s face washes have been reformulated to be paraben-free and sulfate-free.
Several studies have indicated that parabens–preservatives that are widely used in cosmetics, bath, and body products–can cause health hazards, including lymphoma and breast cancers. The FDA does not currently regulate parabens. Until this issue is properly researched and regulated, Sonya Dakar products will no longer contain parabens.
Sulfates–compounds that act as detergents in cleansing products–are also under scrutiny. These foaming agents strip the skin of its natural oils, causing skin irritations among those who are routinely exposed to the compound.
“Our decision to re-formulate our face washes is the first step in making the entire Sonya Dakar Collection paraben-free and sulfate-free,” says Sonya Dakar, company founder and esteemed aesthetician. “Over the course of this year, we will be working to reformulate our masks, eye creams, and sunscreens until we get to every one of our products.”
The re-formulated washes are now supplemented with natural (non-paraben) preservatives derived from corn fermentation or preservatives that are found in everyday food items. The formulations’ other components draw from nourishing ingredients such as sugar cane, coconut, and sweet almond oil.
Today, each Sonya Dakar facial wash is:
* Paraben-free
* Sulfate-free
* Free of artificial dyes
* Free of artificial fragrances
* Animal-friendly (Neither tested on animals nor made with animal
by-products)
* Free of petroleum-based ingredients
* Made from the purest botanicals
Sonya Dakar’s loyal clientele can expect the same great cleansing experience from their favorite face washes that they have come to expect: Dakar has ensured that each of the five face washes’ consistencies have remained as they were before the reformulation.
Sonya Dakar’s five reformulated face washes–Mud Lavender Wash, Red Grapefruit Wash, Cypress Citrus Wash, Bergamot Wash, and Mud Eucalyptus Wash–have garnered a devoted following due to their ability to correct a variety of skin conditions. Formulated to address oiliness, acne, scarring, dullness, discoloration, sensitivity, and even seasonal changes, Sonya Dakar’s prescriptive face washes produce visible results that her clients can count on.
The Sonya Dakar face washes are now improved both inside and out: In addition to the products’ revamped formulas, all of the washes have been repackaged with a softer, more sophisticated design that reflects Sonya Dakar’s “green” message.

I went to the Sonya Dakar Skin Clinic in Beverly Hills a few weeks ago for the first time. After my facial she was very pushy and about having me buy her products and also told me that she is a genius with a chemistry background. Then I asked her why she has parabens in her products and she completely avoided the question. All the products in her skin clinic still have parabens.
Also, her staff neglected to put goggles on me during the light treatment series I signed up for. I went to an optometrist to get my eyes checked because they were feeling blurry and the doctor told me I had UV burns on my retinas and was very alarmed that I hadn’t been told to wear goggles during the light treatment. When I asked Sonya about this she just denied it.
Furthermore, she removed a mole on my forehead without my permission and then kept telling me it was fine and would come back.
Basically, I’ve never had as awful of an experience at any salon before. Her prices are exorbitant and her products don’t work and she is arrogant, pushy and manipulative. I truly hope no one else will have to go through what I’ve been through with that salon.
