Balancing Oil and Dryness
Today’s foundations give your cleanser, toner, and moisturizer a little help by complementing their effectiveness. If you have an excess of oil, as in oily or acne type skin, you can purchase oil free foundations. You can even go one step further and purchase oil absorbing foundations that contain microsponges.
Don’t worry, no one ground up a kitchen sponge and put the shreds into your foundation. Instead, the microsponges are sterile oxylate polymers, basically a form of plastic that absorb up to four times their weight in sebum. Very clever, huh?
Some foundations are forumlated specifically for someone with drier skin, who wears a richer moisturizer. This could be a person with sensitive type skin or a person with surface dryness. You can choose from two kinds of foundations. The first is occlusive and prevents moisture loss. The second contains emollients and humectants that add additional moisture to the skin.
How do you know which is which? Ask your sales person.
